Irish music has been a constant thread through the cultural life of the City of Liverpool and the surrounding areas on Merseyside. The Folkscene programme is keen to broadcast music from a shared heritage and to encourage music making. So the programme often asks,"But what about future generations?" This extract starts with a few comments from Tony Gibbons of Garva, about the origins of his music-making, then interviews the lovely and talented Jo Pue (of the band Calico) who started the Celtic Roots Music Academy, amongst other things, to provide a Summer School for young music makers. In the background of some spontaneous fiddle playing in my home when Jo called in to record the interview, you might catch some comments from Lewis, a young visitor to my house who was hearing a live fiddle tune for the first time.
